FURNACE ELECTRICAL ENGINEER

3-4 month Fixed term contract

Job Summary

We are seeking a Furnace Electrical Engineer with experience in industrial furnace systems to assist during major technical evaluation to be conducted. The successful candidate would need to have had operational experience at the Khwelamet smelter to be considered for the role. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Furnace Refurbishment study: 

  • Compile and provide information and data (including, but not limited to, technical data and drawings, equipment data, and manuals) required as part of furnace refurbishment evaluation 

  • Liaise and interact with furnace OEM’s on specific furnace and auxiliary electrical/instrumentation equipment status and condition to jointly assess refurbishment requirements (including in-field verification/assessment) 

  • Collaborate with other stakeholders such as production, project department, OEMs, and other experts as part of the study 

  • Provide input (where applicable) on startup and commissioning plans for furnace and supporting plant equipment 

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.  

  • 10+ years of experience in industrial electrical engineering, preferably in furnace or high-temperature processing environments.  

  • Strong knowledge of power systems, including transformers, rectifiers, and high-current circuits.  

  • Familiarity with PLC programming (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley) and industrial automation systems.  

  • Familiarity with variable frequency drives (VFDs), instrumentation, and control systems.  

  • Experience in the steel industry is highly preferred.  

Key Skills

  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic abilities.  

  • Knowledge of furnace electrical systems (e.g., electrode control, heating elements, power regulation).  

  • Understanding of electrical protection systems and fault analysis.  

  • Ability to read and develop electrical drawings and schematics.  

  • Project management and continuous improvement mindset.  

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.  

  • Ability to work under pressure as may be required by the project timeline. 

Preferred Certifications (Optional)

  • Certification in PLC programming or industrial automation  

  • High-voltage switching or electrical safety certifications 

Working Conditions

  • Work around high-voltage and high-current systems.  

  • Strict adherence to safety procedures and use of PPE required.  

  • Safe access protocols followed for plant areas accessed
