Furnace MECHANICAL ENGINEER
3-4 month Fixed term contract
Job Summary
We are seeking a Furnace Mechanical Engineer experienced in industrial furnace systems
to assist during major technical evaluation to be conducted. The successful candidate would
need to have had operational experience at the Khwelamet smelter to be considered for the
role.
Key Responsibilities
Furnace Refurbishment study:
Compile and provide information and data (including, but not limited to, technical data and drawings, equipment data and manuals) required as part of furnace refurbishment evaluation.
Liaise and interact with furnace OEM’s on specific furnace and auxiliary mechanical equipment status and condition to
jointly assess refurbishment requirement (including in-field verification/assessment).
Collaborate with other stakeholders such as production, project department, OEMs and other experts as part of the study
Provide input (where applicable) on startup and commissioning plans for furnace and supporting plant equipment.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
10+ years of experience in heavy industrial environments, preferably involving furnaces or high-temperature equipment.
Knowledge of mechanical systems such as hydraulics, cooling water systems, and structural steel design.
Experience in steel industry is preferred.
Key Skills
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
Understanding of furnace mechanical design and failure modes.
Familiarity with CAD software and engineering drawings.
Project management and maintenance planning skills.
Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
Ability to work in high-temperature, physically demanding environments.
Preferred Certifications (Optional)
Certification in maintenance reliability (e.g., CMRP).
Safety certifications relevant to industrial environments.
Working Conditions
Safe access protocols followed for the plant areas accessed.
Use of PPE and adherence to strict safety protocols is mandatory.
